KCCA rescues 161 street kids.



Kampala Capital City Council Authority (KCCA) has today the 18th of September, 2023 rescued 161 children from the streets today, working in partnership with NGOs, including Dwelling Places and Baana ministries. They have commenced the prosecution of six  adults who are dealing in child trafficking 


These  161 children are now on their way to their next destination, which is Napak District, in the  Karamoja sub-region. The director of Gender community services and production for KCCA, Sheila Birungi Gandi, was on-site to oversee the operation. She said that 'KCCA enforcement teams make street searches every week. These children will be handed over to the Ministry of Gender team in Napak for onward rehabilitation.' The rehabilitation protocol includes counseling for settlement and skilling in different skills. In the last three years, KCCA has rescued over 750 children from the streets. Some children were placed with UWESO in Masulita while others were taken back to Karamaja


Since 2022, KCCA has been implementing the KCCA child protection ordinance, 2022 Act.
