Hon. Miriam Mukhaye, the NRM flag bearer and incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Mbale District, on Friday and Saturday conducted a vibrant vote-hunting campaign in Lukhonje Subcounty and Busiu Town Council, attracting large crowds and widespread support.
In Lukhonje Subcounty, Hon. Miriam began her campaign trail from Nambwa Parish, proceeding through Nabweya, Namawanga and Waninda Parishes. In all the parishes visited, she was accorded a warm and enthusiastic reception, with supporters welcoming her through chants, songs and ululation, reflecting strong grassroots support.
Addressing the gatherings, NRM leaders called upon voters to rally behind party flag bearers to ensure continuity in service delivery. Leading the task force in Lukhonje, Mr. Wanyera Charles, the NRM Chairperson, urged residents to vote for NRM candidates, citing the party’s commitment to sustained development.
The campaign then shifted to Busiu Town Council, combing the remaining Wards of Mabanga, Kolani, Central, Town and Buwalasi.
The campaign activities were coordinated by Mr. Maali Michael, the NRM Chairperson for Busiu Town Council, who headed the task force. He applauded Hon. Miriam for her dedicated service, consistency and commitment to the welfare of her people.
Hon. Miriam was received amid a lively atmosphere of music, dance and testimonies celebrating her leadership.
Residents and local leaders openly endorsed her for a second term, pointing to her achievements, particularly in the health and education sectors.
Supporters commended Hon. Miriam for her role in organizing a fundraiser that facilitated the expansion of Busiu Health Centre III, lobbying for the facility to acquire beds and buying basins to improve maternity services for expectant mothers.
Hon. Miriam thanked voters for the overwhelming support shown during the NRM primaries, which enabled her to secure the party flag. She appealed for continued backing in the forthcoming general elections scheduled for next Thursday.
She further informed her supporters that, driven by love for her people and a deep sense of responsibility, she personally acquired an ambulance to support emergency health services in Mbale District. She emphasized that although providing such services is not part of a legislator’s mandate, she chose to act because true leadership goes beyond legislation and must directly respond to the needs of the people.
