Grassroots Mobilisers, MPs-Elect Pledge Unity After Busia Elections at NRM Thanksgiving-Nekesa Praised

Grassroots mobilisers, Members of Parliament-elect and district leaders from Bulumbi and Masafu sub-counties in Busia District have pledged to work together in the new government following the recently concluded general elections.

The leaders made the joint commitment during a National Resistance Movement (NRM) thanksgiving ceremony hosted by Ambassador Hon. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, the NRM National Treasurer, at the party secretariat. The event brought together grassroots mobilisers, MPs-elect and district chairpersons from the two sub-counties to celebrate the party’s strong electoral performance and to chart a united path forward.

The thanksgiving was held in recognition of the NRM’s victory in Busia District, where the party secured a decisive mandate. Addressing the gathering, Hon. Nekesa highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, unity and service-driven leadership in translating electoral success into tangible benefits for the people.

“We celebrate the 60 percent victory of President Yoweri Museveni in Busia,” Hon. Nekesa said, noting that the outcome reflected the confidence citizens continue to place in the NRM. She emphasised that the victory should not breed complacency but rather renew leaders’ commitment to serving the electorate diligently.

Presiding over the function as chief guest, Hon. Nekesa urged the newly elected leaders and grassroots mobilisers to remain humble and people-centred in their approach to leadership. She cautioned against internal divisions and the tendency to seek personal recognition at the expense of others, stressing that unity is critical for effective governance.

“Leadership is not about diminishing others to shine. Keep it simple and always return to what the people want,” she advised, calling on leaders to prioritise service delivery, accountability and close engagement with the communities that entrusted them with leadership.

Participants at the thanksgiving commended the role of grassroots mobilisers in securing the NRM’s victory, describing them as the backbone of the party’s mobilisation machinery. Several speakers underscored the need to strengthen coordination between elected leaders and grassroots structures to ensure that government programmes reach intended beneficiaries.

Leaders from Bulumbi and Masafu sub-counties pledged to work across political and administrative levels to support the NRM agenda and advance development priorities in Busia District. They committed to promoting unity, peace and cooperation as the new government takes shape.

The thanksgiving ceremony concluded with a renewed call for cohesion within the party, with leaders agreeing that sustained unity and people-focused leadership will be key to consolidating the NRM’s gains and delivering meaningful transformation for the people of Busia.
