Kampala, Uganda – Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, Speaker of the 11th Parliament, was officially sworn in on Wednesday as the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament for the 12th Parliament, securing another five-year term after being elected unopposed.
The colourful swearing-in ceremony, part of the ongoing induction of newly elected MPs at Parliament in Kampala, saw Among take the oath of allegiance and office. She was accompanied by her husband, Engineer Moses Magogo Hassim, who stood by her side as she reaffirmed her commitment to serve the people of Bukedea.
In her remarks following the oath, Speaker Among expressed deep gratitude to the voters of Bukedea for entrusting her with another term.
She thanked her constituents for their continued support, describing the unopposed victory as a strong endorsement of her leadership and development record in the district."I want to thank the people of Bukedea for this overwhelming confidence in me," Among said.
"This is not just my victory but a collective one for all of us who believe in progress and service."Among was declared elected unopposed in October 2025 after no other candidates from opposition parties successfully nominated for the seat. She previously served as Bukedea District Woman MP in the 10th and 11th Parliaments.
The event forms part of the broader inauguration process for Uganda's 12th Parliament, which kicked off this week with MPs taking oaths over several days. Families and supporters, many in traditional attire, turned out to witness the historic moment.
Among, a prominent figure in Ugandan politics and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), continues to balance her dual roles as Speaker and constituency representative.
Her reelection ensures strong continuity in representation for Bukedea District.Supporters hailed the swearing-in as a milestone, while the presence of her husband Magogo added a personal touch to the official proceedings.
The couple, who have twins, have been visible together in recent political and community engagements.
As the 12th Parliament takes shape, all eyes will remain on Speaker Among as she prepares to preside over the House once the full composition is in place and the Speaker's position is formally addressed.
