The joint bid by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania has won the race for the hosting rights of the host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) The  Executive Committee board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the news today in Cairo, Egypt. Senegal, Botswana, and Egypt were also vying to host the 2027 AFCON. The committee also announced Morocco as the host of the 2025 AFCON.  CAF President Patrice Motsepe celebrated the news saying that the “future of African football has never been brighter.” He also suggested that an African nation will win the World Cup in the near future.

Federation International Football Association (FIFA) a few months ago revealed that the newly constructed Nakivubo stadium will not qualify to host AFCON and CHAN qualifiers or any international-related fixtures. According to FIFA officials, Nakivubo Stadium is eligible to host the Uganda Cup, Uganda Premier League, School / University games, and other local sports.  Fifa said that Nakivubo was not on international standards to host any international sports games.  Fifa also wrote to Fufa president Mr Magogo Hashim about the new requirement of the stadium to be able to host international matches. After receiving the communication Magogo went to his Twitter account to show his frustration after learning that as of now Uganda has no stadium with the standard requirements needed by Fifa. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially announced the end of their collaboration with Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, the head coach of the Uganda Cranes. This decision marks the conclusion of their two-year partnership. Sredojevic, a Serbian coach who was serving his second term as the Cranes coach, still had one year remaining on his contract, having signed a three-year deal in July 2021. In an official statement, FUFA stated, “Today, on Thursday, September 14th, 2023, FUFA and Mr. Milutin Sredojevic mutually agreed to terminate the existing employment contract between the two parties.” FUFA expressed its appreciation for Sredojevic’s dedication and efforts during his tenure as the Head Coach of the Uganda Cranes. Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has asked sports federations to ensure timely payment of allowances and other remuneration to sportsmen and women, especially those whose successes in international competitions bring glory to Uganda. According to Ms Among, persistent complaints about poor, late or no payment of sportsmen and women as well as their coaches has cast the country in bad light and discourages others who want to represent the country in various competitions.  "If we don't take sports as a priority then we are doomed. Minister, much as we are celebrating, what members are saying [that] these federations don't pay the athletes. Because the money is given to federations, we don't pay them direct. The federations must pay them and in time,” she said.  Update on Namboole Stadium. Statement from: Hon.  Peter Ogwang (MP) Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports) I am pained to announce that Uganda Cranes' AFCON home qualifier game scheduled for June 2023 will be played in Cameroon for failure to have rehabilitation works at Namboole Stadium completed on time.  I take full responsibility for the delays and apologize to Ugandans for failing to fulfill my own promise. However, rehabilitation works remain ongoing and on schedule as per the contract. All procurement contracts have been signed but we were only delayed in terms of deliveries which could go up to mid-May.  Indeed, Government remains steadfast to ensure that the Stadium is completed without further delays.
