The election for Lira city woman MP showed the power I wield in the political space of Uganda. I am proud of my brand, my campaign team, our ORIBCING AGENDA which was embraced by all, the voters of lira city, the people of Lango from across the globe, and all Ugandans who followed this election keenly.
The Voter rigging which took place in Lira city was unprecedented and meticulously planned and executed by
the the Speaker of Parliament for fear that I am a formidable candidate who would compete with her for office of the Speaker of Parliament. When she realised how unpopular her candidate Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng was, she planned and applied the followings rigging strategies;
Working with NIRA, Electoral commission and security forces (army, police and prisions) to migrate names of about 7000 security personnel into the register for Lira city. These security personnel were transported from all the stations across the country and accommodated at St. Gracious Schools in Ngetta, Boke and Ireda In Lira city. Some were accommodated at guest houses between 12th/1/2026 to 14th/1/2026. They all voted in various polling stations within the city centre.
Registering people from outside Lira city especially the immediate subcounties of Kole, Lira and Kwania three weeks before voting and working with electoral commission to fix them in the register. This was done in October and November. I did lodge the complaint for formality. A total of 3450 people were added through this system.
Migrating names from the NRM voter register who were not registered voters into national Electoral commission data base. This was executed upto November, 2026.
Compromising Electoral officials: Presiding officers were sourced from loyal supporters; they did not do interviews, they were appointed on 14th/1/2025. All those who were recruited through the right channel were demoted as Polling Assistants. All these officials were paid to rigged. In 134 pollings stations out of 305, voting materials arrived between 12noon to 2pm. I lodged the complaint to the Returning officer who told me that some of the things are beyond him.
The Speaker came with 4.2billion on 14/1/2026 and ferried people from Bukedea and Kampala in 10 buses three days prior to voting. These people were kept in various lodges, guests houses and hotels. They pre-ticked over 10.000 votes. The ticked ballot books were reinstated back into the boxes and new sealed replaced. The people ferried were given voter location slips and the compromised presiding officers were instructed to tear 5 pre-ticked ballot papers for each of them. The table for all candidates agents were placed far away from the table of Electoral officials to aid the multiple voting.
Intimidation, threats and beating my agents and supporters. The army were ferried and deployed from Friday 9th January 2026. The streets of Lira city had more soldiers than shoppers. People retreated home by 6pm. The vibrant Lira City turned into a gost city. Militia recruited by Dr. Jane Aceng were protected and shield by the army and escorted using BodaBoda riders to patrol all villages in the city. My agents homes were targeted, surrounded and searched for allegedly keeping money, Kitenge, sugar etc for bribing voters. The harassment were executed for 5 days to suppress my supporters from turning out to vote to facilitate them to execute their rigging plans.
The presiding officers forced my Agents to sign declaration forms before counting of votes. Those who resisted were advised to do so because the army is around. One of my agent in Ayago called me to report and inquire whether he should sign. I then asked him to give the phone to the presiding officer so that I talk to him. When I guided him on the law, he told me that all presiding officers were instructed to do the same, and that the figures to be entered are already with them, irrespective of the outcome of the voting results.
Intimidating all media houses not to cover any of my stories, the malpractices and not to host me in any talk show prior to voting. Even radios that I had already paid for like RadioWa and Unity FM (I had paid through proxy) turned me away on 13th January 2026. During and after voting, between 15th to 18th January 2026, all media houses were instructed not to host me on any Radio station.
When I and my husband Jimmy Akena got several reports of the multiple rigging, we decided to drive to the field to collect evidence being reported by our agents; While in the field, over 50 BodaBodas carrying soldiers surrounded us commanded by Assistant RCCs and goons all armed. They started cocking their guns and pistols. We called the police and fifth division commander who came to the scene, drove us back home, and put us under house arrest until end of voting.
