Nakiyi Julius, the aspiring Member of Parliament for Budadiri East in Sironko District, on Thursday evening hosted all the newly elected NRM sub-county chairpersons from his Constituency at Rosewood Hotel in Mbale City.
The meeting was organized to congratulate them on their recent victories in the NRM party elections and to rally them for unity and teamwork.
In his remarks, Nakiyi said, “I called you here so I could get to know you, some of you are new, and as we head into tomorrow’s district NRM leadership elections, I didn’t want to overlook anyone who might be my leader.”
Nakiyi urged the leaders to reach out to those who lost in the party elections and encourage them to join hands, noting that unity is vital because all are NRM members.
“Sometimes when I'm competing with Waboya Julius, I don’t use too much force because I know I might defeat him in the primaries, and afterwards, I’ll need his supporters on my side,” he said.
“I thank Wambazu from Bukiise sub county, who after winning, I called a meeting with his opponent Muhammad at Mt. Elgon and united them. That’s the spirit we need.” he noted.
As we go for the district NRM elections tomorrow, Nakiyi advised the leaders: “I won't tell you who to vote for, but I urge you to choose someone who will lead you effectively.”
He also appealed for their support in his parliamentary campaign: “Join my sub-county coordinators to help mobilize support for me. You now have the NRM structures please help me to campaign. I promise, if I get the NRM flag, no one will defeat me in the final elections.”
Musoli Titus, the NRM chairman for Bumalimba Sub-county, encouraged fellow leaders to stand firm in their roles: “We were elected to these offices. Don’t let anyone intimidate you. Don’t enter the NRM office with fear. Let’s use our positions to mobilize for President Museveni and Nakiyi Julius.”
Wandoba Godfrey, the NRM chairman for Bukyambi Sub-county, thanked Nakiyi for the invitation and pledged their support.
“We, the sub-county chairpersons, are your generals on ground. If you handle us well, we will mobilize for you. We don’t want a weak candidate who will cause us problems later.” Wandoba said.
He added with a humorous tone: “The problem with many politicians is that they prefer people with rumors. That’s why women like boda boda riders, they talk too much. But a rich man doesn’t have time to waste so these Chairpersons don't talk much but are good mobilizers and will make sure that you get the flag.”
