The National Resistance Movement (NRM), under the visionary leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has stood as a pillar of peace, unity, and transformation across Uganda.
It is therefore deeply alarming to witness a surge in malicious propaganda and disinformation campaigns being peddled by self-proclaimed “activists” who are, in truth, political mercenaries working to destabilize our society—particularly in Teso Sub-Region.
Among the chief perpetrators of this toxic narrative is Calvin Ecodu, who has shamelessly aligned himself with anti-NRM forces and is actively using digital platforms to sow discord, confusion, and tribal tension. Ecodu is spearheading a deliberate effort to fracture the unity of the Iteso people through a well-funded misinformation campaign.
Two major online platforms are at the center of this dangerous enterprise:
1. Teso News Network, run by Ogulei Xerxes – a blogger turned propagandist who has turned journalism into a weapon of division. Instead of serving the public with facts and constructive dialogue, Xerxes has chosen the path of fabrications, tribal incitement, and personal attacks on patriotic NRM leaders. His platform has become a dumping ground for falsehoods aimed at undermining the achievements of the NRM government in Teso.
2. The Patriot, owned by Timothy Okwakol, son of renowned musician Lazaro Okwakol – instead of carrying on a legacy of art and unity, Timothy has reduced his platform to a political wrecking ball, launching baseless attacks and spreading divisive content that aims to discredit the NRM. His outlet is anything but patriotic. It is a propaganda rag masking itself as independent media, serving narrow, subversive interests.
Let it be known: these individuals and their platforms are not neutral voices. They are enemies of progress, working to destabilize the very foundation that has brought peace, development, and opportunity to the Iteso people. Their actions are not only reckless—they are deliberately anti-NRM, anti-unity, and anti-Ugandan.
We call upon all patriotic citizens of Teso and Uganda at large to reject these toxic agents of disinformation. Do not allow yourselves to be used by political opportunists who have no stake in your development or your future. The peace and progress we have built under the NRM must not be compromised by selfish individuals hiding behind keyboards and false headlines.
The NRM remains unshaken. We will continue to protect the truth, serve the people, and dismantle every malicious narrative constructed by these so-called media houses. We urge the relevant authorities to investigate and hold accountable all actors involved in publishing and spreading incitement and falsehoods.
Unity is our strength. Disunity is their agenda. Say no to propaganda. Say yes to NRM. Say yes to Uganda.
