The dramatic fall of Hon. Florence Nambozo at the hands of the very people she was meant to serve
In the pre-dawn hours of May 19th, while most of Sironko lay quiet, the leadership of Mutufu Town Council had already hit the road, with determination blazing in their eyes and the Constitution in their hands.
At exactly 4:00 AM, a delegation of 14 leaders departed Sironko Town Council and journeyed straight to the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala. Their mission? To confront the very core of power about one of the most shocking electoral disgraces in recent memory.
At the centre of this political storm is none other than Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala, the State Minister for Karamoja and Woman MP of Sironko District. But this time, her usual manoeuvres failed her.
Her actions, once whispered in corners, have now been exposed in full daylight by the people of Mutufu, a town she underestimated and betrayed.
Act 1: The Village Vote That Broke the Camels’ Backs:
It began at the grassroots. At the village level, what should have been a peaceful democratic process turned into a circus of manipulation. Hon. Nambozo allegedly tore up the official voter register on the 6th of May. She offered UGX 10 million to her opponent to bow out, and when that failed, she reportedly paid UGX 500,000 per vote to handpick her win. Even worse, she imported voters from other villages, enrolled the elderly and men in a Women’s League election, and carried out the ultimate insult: running an illegal vote on May 7th.
It was only the swift intervention of the NRM Secretariat, under the supervision of Mr. Emmanuel Dombo from the NRM headquarters, that brought temporary order to the mess she had created.
Act 2: A Parish-Level Switch-Up That Violated Every Rule:
Realizing she had lost ground in her own home parish, Hon. Nambozo made a bold but unlawful move, nominating herself in a neighbouring parish, and hid it so that no other person could be nominated. This bold and shameless breach of electoral protocol not only exposed her desperation but revealed her utter disregard for party guidelines and electoral integrity.
Act 3: The Sub-County Scam:
But the drama didn’t stop there. At the sub-county level, instead of staying within the women’s league where she had initially registered, Hon. Nambozo attempted to contest for the General Secretary position in the mainstream structure. This was the final nail. Her chaotic political manoeuvring had crossed every boundary, both ethical and procedural, violating the NRM Election Guidelines 2025. FIRST disruption at the subcounty level was on the 16th and then 17th.
The Day of Reckoning in Kyadondo:
At the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala, the 14-member delegation from Mutufu was welcomed by Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission. After laying out the full list of irregularities, Dr. Tanga Odoi did the unexpected. He called Hon. Nambozo on speakerphone and demanded a response before the very people she had betrayed.
Cornered and out of excuses, the State Minister mumbled a stunning defence: “I didn’t know the rules.”
To which Dr. Odoi fired back:
“Madam Minister, phones exist for a reason. He reminded her that she had a responsibility to consult with the Secretariat or visit in person if unsure about procedural matters.
Dr. Odoi condemned her actions, asserting that she owed an apology to the electorate and the NRM leadership. He directed her to issue a formal apology and stated that she would not be permitted to stand for the district chairperson position until the President’s office reviewed and approved her letter.
The people of Mutufu, emboldened by Dr. Tanga Odoi’s decisive stance, are resolute in their demand for accountability and transparency. They have made it clear: they are no longer willing to tolerate electoral manipulation and are determined to restore integrity in their political processes. The unfolding scenario underscores a broader call for ethical leadership and the unwavering vigilance of the people of Sironko.
