Minister Nambozo Cleared, Set To Face Hajji Lumolo For Sironko NRM Chair Race

Hon. Florence Nambozo, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko District, has been formally nominated for the position of NRM District Chairperson for Sironko.

Sironko, Uganda: The State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Florence Nambozo, has formally entered the race to become the NRM District Chairperson for Sironko, setting up a high-stakes contest against longtime incumbent Hajji Sulaiman Lumolo.

Nambozo, who is also the District Woman MP, was nominated on Wednesday morning by NRM Registrar Peter Mafabi at the ruling party’s offices in Sironko.

She becomes the most prominent challenger to Hajji Lumolo, who has held the party’s top district position for over two decades.

The nomination exercise will conclude on Friday morning, with official clearance and signing of forms expected later the same day before the campaign period officially begins.

Shortly after her nomination, Nambozo emphasized the need for unity among party ranks and promised to revitalize the NRM’s grassroots structures to ensure victory in the 2026 general elections.

“I am committed to strengthening cohesion within the party and building a stronger, united Sironko under the NRM,” she said.

By the time of filing this story on Wednesday, only two candidates, Hon. Florence Nambozo and Hajji Lumolo, had submitted nominations for the influential district post.
