Tensions Rise in Sironko as Minister Nambozo Florence Accused of Plotting to Disrupt NRM Elections

Mbale/Sironko – Fresh concerns have emerged ahead of the NRM district elections in Sironko, as credible reports indicate a covert meeting allegedly held by Hon. Nambozo Florence with known gang leaders at a hotel in Mbale. The meeting is believed to have centered on plans to disrupt the upcoming Friday elections, amid growing fears that she may not secure a win through a fair democratic process.

Sources close to the matter reveal that Hon. Nambozo, currently facing stiff opposition from fellow NRM stalwart Lumolo, is allegedly orchestrating a wave of chaos intended to derail the elections and later pin the blame on her opponent. This strategy, political analysts say, mirrors similar tactics reportedly used during the recent village, parish, and sub-county level elections in Sironko – incidents that prompted several residents to seek intervention from the NRM Electoral Commission in Kampala.

While in Kampala, Hon. Nambozo was reportedly directed by the Commission to withdraw her sub-county candidacy and issue a formal apology – a directive she reluctantly complied with. Now, all signs point to a repeat of those events, but on a much larger and potentially more dangerous scale.

Disturbingly, it is alleged that Hon. Nambozo has threatened local security heads, claiming to act on direct instructions from President Yoweri Museveni to remove Lumolo from the NRM party. She has allegedly warned that failure to support her mission would result in transfers or disciplinary actions against those who resist. These statements have thrown district security officials into a state of confusion and fear.

Despite these developments, regional security agencies have remained tight-lipped, even as tension among the public continues to rise. With Friday fast approaching, many residents fear the situation could escalate into violence. Several citizens have vowed to resist what they describe as a "tyrannical hold" on Sironko politics.

Since her ministerial appointment, Hon. Nambozo has come under fire for allegedly using her position to intimidate rivals and suppress internal party democracy. Her critics accuse her of attempting to portray herself as the region’s unrivaled political force — a move that has sparked resentment among grassroots leaders and the electorate alike.

As a precaution, the people of Sironko are urgently calling upon the NRM leadership and national security agencies to deploy neutral and visible oversight at the polling station. They recommend that only accredited delegates, media personnel, and security forces be allowed access to the voting venue, while non-delegates should remain outside to maintain order.

The unfolding events present a serious test for the NRM’s internal democratic values and its commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections. The nation watches closely as Sironko braces for a politically charged Friday.
