President Museveni noted that Uganda is now firmly on the path to transformation through a knowledge-based economy, citing innovations in automotive manufacturing, vaccine production, and computer development.
President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has officially picked nomination forms to contest for both the party’s top leadership position and the presidential flag bearer slot in the 2026 general elections.
The forms were handed to him on Saturday by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, amid cheers from members of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), ministers, senior party leaders, and thousands of enthusiastic supporters.
Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the President said his decision to seek re-election was fueled by the overwhelming support he received from the NRM fraternity during his recent countrywide tours.
“I thank the NRM fraternity for the love and support you have shown me while I was moving around the country. It energized me to take up the mantle to lead the country for another five years,” Museveni said.
President Museveni noted that Uganda is now firmly on the path to transformation through a knowledge-based economy, citing innovations in automotive manufacturing, vaccine production, and computer development.
“In this coming term, I will ensure we push further into value addition, sugar production, coffee processing, and other strategic sectors,” he said.
On governance, President Museveni vowed to intensify the fight against corruption, promising to ensure public funds are efficiently used to accelerate national development.
Addressing party members, the President cautioned against the politics of identity and emphasized the importance of ideological clarity and unity within the party.
