Tension is rising in Bulambuli District ahead of tomorrow’s NRM elections following a series of disturbing revelations involving missing election materials, a planned rigging scheme, and politically-motivated violence.
Today, the NRM Electoral Commission dispatched party registers and materials to all districts nationwide for use in tomorrow’s voting exercise. However, in Bulambuli District, declaration forms for over 600 villages in both Elgon North and Elgon County are missing. These forms are essential for capturing and declaring election results — their disappearance threatens the transparency and credibility of the entire process in the region.
In a separate development, intelligence reports have confirmed that a secret night meeting was held at the residence of Hon. Irene Muloni in the senior quarters. The meeting was allegedly attended by key party figures including Massa (NRM General Secretary), Hon. Gerald, and Hon. Muloni (NRM Treasurer), along with local security personnel. Sources say the group discussed strategies to manipulate election results in favor of preferred candidates, using state machinery and intimidation.
Bulambuli has already been flagged as a hotspot for violence in the ongoing elections. During the recent party structuring process, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) was nearly killed for opposing certain political cliques. The political environment remains volatile and hostile.
Just yesterday, Mr. Nagimesi, a candidate for the Elgon North Constituency, was beaten up under orders of the incumbent MP, yet security forces took no action. This has further fueled public frustration and fear.
Even more worrying are reports that the District Registrar, who is expected to serve impartially, has been actively campaigning for certain candidates whom he claims are “close friends of Dr. Tanga Odoi.” When approached for comment, the registrar arrogantly dismissed the complaints, reportedly stating: “I am the god of this election.”
Residents in several sub-counties — Lusha, Bulago, Sot, Buluganya, and Bumasobo — have reported an influx of hired goons and bouncers ferried in from outside Bulambuli to disrupt the voting process and instill fear in local communities. Despite clear awareness, security operatives have refused to intervene, raising suspicions of bias and complicity.
With the elections set for tomorrow, the combination of missing election materials, threats of violence, and compromised security institutions signals a looming disaster. If action is not taken immediately, lives may be lost, and the integrity of the NRM internal democratic process will be permanently damaged.
We therefore call upon:
The NRM Secretariat
The National Electoral Commission
Security Agencies
The Office of the President
…to urgently investigate the situation in Bulambuli, recover missing materials, and ensure a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process.
The people of Bulambuli deserve justice, order, and respect for their democratic rights.
