The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has confirmed that its presidential flagbearer, Hon Nathan Nandala Mafabi, will be officially nominated on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, by the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The nomination will take place at 10:00 AM at the Electoral Commission’s new headquarters in Lubowa, Wakiso District.
This development follows the party’s successful submission of all required documents, including the collection of verified signatures from across the country.
Speaking at a press briefing at the FDC party headquarters on 22nd September in Najjanankumbi, Kampala, Robert Centenary, FDC Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda and head of the nomination organizing committee, confirmed the clearance and laid out the follow-up agenda.
“As chairman of the organizing committee, I can confirm that Hon. Nandala Mafabi has met all the nomination requirements. He will be nominated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in Lubowa. After that, he will address the nation and our supporters at a massive rally at the Kampala Road Playground in Luzira, Nakawa East Division,” Centenary said.
Centenary mentioned that after the rally, the FDC will unveil its official campaign roadmap, signaling the start of nationwide activities.
“Our roadmap launch will follow on September 29, with key engagements across all regions. We call upon Ugandans to attend the Luzira rally and hear our message of hope aimed at fixing Uganda’s economic and financial crises,” he added.
John Kikonyogo, FDC’s party spokesperson, told the public that the party remains a key political force, with extensive grassroots support and strong organizational capacity.
“FDC is not a party you joke with. We collected signatures from 146 districts, well above the 98 required. We are the only opposition party to achieve this so far. To those who left, we say come back; let’s rebuild together,” Kikonyogo said.
According to him, the party’s manifesto has already been finalized and printed, outlining a vision to shift power from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to a people-focused FDC government.
“Our candidate doesn’t need an introduction. His CV is solid. Our manifesto is practical and people-centered — ready to rescue Uganda. We are organized, and we are ready,” Kikonyogo said.
According to the Electoral Commission, only NRM and FDC have successfully submitted all requirements for nomination so far.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the incumbent and NRM flagbearer, is scheduled to be nominated on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, also at the EC offices in Lubowa. Museveni is expected to hold a post-nomination rally at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.
