Bungokho Central in Mbale District Declared Neutral Ground as Political Shake-up Unfolds

In a surprising turn of events, Bungokho Central in Mbale District has been declared neutral ground following the entry of former Minister Hon. Kafabusa into the race as an independent candidate. Rumors suggest that Kafabusa had vowed not to return to the race but later decided to support Hon. George Wamono, another contestant. This unexpected move has left his opponents puzzled and strategizing anew.

Political analysts believe Kafabusa’s decision to re-enter the race effectively hands the incumbent, Hon. Wanda Richard, a significant advantage by creating a more balanced playing field.

The race has also seen long-time allies, Mr. Masaba Muhamood and Hon. Werikhe, positioning themselves as strong contenders. Both share a close political bond and are expected to face off against each other, potentially splitting votes and leaving the incumbent to navigate the race on a more neutral footing.

The first day of nominations was marked by intense activity. Hon. Werikhe Kafabusa was the first to be nominated, followed closely by Hon. Wanda Richard. The NRM flag bearer, Mr. Masaba Muhamood, nearly missed out on nomination when officials informed his team that his file lacked the required secretary-general’s signature.

The news sparked a flurry of activity, with the NRM chairperson making continuous calls in the corridor for nearly an hour until the issue was resolved.

The Bungokho Central race has attracted a diverse group of contestants, including the incumbent, who is contesting as an independent candidate with the radio as his symbol.

As the race heats up, political observers are keenly watching to see how these developments will shape the upcoming elections in this key constituency.
