ICT PS Dr. Amina Zawedde's insights as stake holders hold an engagement aimed at strengthening their central role in advancing the government’s socio-economic agenda

Today, Local Government Communication Officers convened at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala for an engagement aimed at strengthening their central role in advancing the government’s socio-economic agenda.

While addressing the officers, Dr. Amina Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT, emphasized that most Ugandans are young and active on various digital platforms.

Dr. Zawedde also highlighted that Uganda currently has over 44 million mobile subscriptions and more than 10 million smartphone users, making digital platforms an essential space for sharing government messages and promoting programs across the country such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

She further urged officers to use verified information to counter misinformation and to amplify local success stories that demonstrate government impact at the grassroots.

Dr. Zawedde encouraged government communicators to meet citizens where they are by using modern, engaging, and relatable communication channels.

The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of local Government, Ben Kumumanya, underscored the need for Communication Officers to effectively highlight positive developments within their districts — including progress under the Parish Development Model (PDM), improvements in education and health facilities, recruitment efforts, and road infrastructure projects.
