A wave of falsehoods is circulating in Lira City alleging that Hon. Betty Amongi was seen destroying President Museveni’s posters and T-shirts — a claim that is completely fabricated and politically motivated.
According to credible accounts from Lira City, the confusion began on 23rd October 2025, when Boda Boda riders were hired by Hon. Ruth Achieng, the Minister of Health, to escort her to the Electoral Commission offices for her nomination. Each rider was promised UGX 20,000, and they were given T-shirts and posters bearing her image.
However, after the event, the riders were never paid, despite waiting for their promised facilitation. Frustrated and disappointed, they attempted to air their grievances on local radio stations, but Hon. Ruth Achieng reportedly intervened and blocked their appearance by calling station managers not to host them.
Left with no one willing to listen, the angry riders decided to seek audience with Hon. Betty Amongi, whom they described as a leader with an open door for everyone. When they reached her home, they found several women’s groups who had also come to express their disappointment over similar mistreatment and unfulfilled promises from Hon. Achieng’s team.

In an effort to calm the situation and prevent chaos, Hon. Amongi advised the agitated riders and women not to destroy any posters or T-shirts belonging to Hon. Ruth Achieng. Instead, she collected the items to ensure they could be safely returned to Achieng’s camp.
Unfortunately, Ruth Achieng’s camp has since twisted the incident, circulating a doctored video claiming that Hon. Amongi destroyed President Museveni’s campaign materials — a malicious lie meant to blackmail and tarnish her reputation.
Hon. Betty Amongi has reaffirmed her respect to President Museveni, emphasizing that she has never and would never participate in any act of disrespect toward the President or the party’s symbols.
The truth remains clear: the real issue was the betrayal and mistreatment of Boda Boda riders and women groups by Hon. Ruth Achieng’s team, which has now resorted to intrigue and falsehoods to cover their failures in Lira City.
Hon. Amongi continues to urge for peace, unity, and honest politics, reminding all leaders that respecting the people and their efforts is the cornerstone of true leadership.
