Hon. Mirriam Mukhaye Wangisi, Member of Parliament for Mbale District, has called on the church to take an active role in the upcoming 2026 general elections, urging church leaders to encourage their congregations to vote for candidates who will uphold Christian values and deliver tangible benefits for the community.
Speaking at Holy Trinity Nabumali Arch Deconery on Monday, Hon. Wangisi addressed a gathering of church leaders, reverends, and priests, stressing the importance of electing leaders who align with the principles of the Lord and will champion policies that benefit the church and society.
Hon. Wangisi, who is seeking re-election in 2026, urged the church to not only mobilize voters but also to educate their followers about the significance of politics and the power of voting. She emphasized that church leaders can play a crucial role in shaping a more informed and engaged electorate, one that understands the importance of their vote in determining the future of the nation.
"It is important that we elect leaders who are grounded in faith and who will advocate for the laws and policies that will benefit our communities and the church," Hon. Mukhaye said. "I urge the church to teach the people about the importance of politics and to encourage them to vote in the coming elections. Our collective voice can bring about the change we desire."
Mukhaye also made a personal appeal to the congregation, asking for their support as she seeks to return to Parliament for a second term. She pledged to continue working hard for the people of Mbale District, vowing to deliver even more than she has in her first term.
"I have always been committed to serving you, and with your support, I will continue to work even harder to improve our community and the lives of our people," she added.
During the service, one of the reverends testified to the good work Hon. Wangisi has done during her first term in office, highlighting her contributions to local development and service delivery. The reverend encouraged fellow church members to vote for her in the upcoming elections, calling her a dedicated and effective leader.
With the 2026 general elections scheduled for January 15, Hon. Mukhaye call for voter mobilization resonates with her commitment to ensuring that the church and the community play an active role in shaping the future of Uganda.
