NUP’S Sauda Madada Vomits Blood, Court Orders Urgent Evacuation

Kanyanya Grade One Magistrate Damalie Agumasiimwe has ordered the immediate evacuation of detained National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter Sauda Madada to a medical facility for further treatment.

Madada, who appeared frail and visibly ill, was brought to court supported by prison warders and was reportedly vomiting blood. Before the court session began, the magistrate visited the holding cells after receiving reports that Madada was too unwell to attend proceedings.

Madada has been on remand for more than two months alongside other opposition supporters arrested in February 2025 for staging a birthday parade for NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine. Her deteriorating health prompted the court to direct her immediate medical evacuation by ambulance.

She is one of several NUP officials and supporters facing similar charges, including Edward Ssebufu (Eddie Mutwe), Bobi Wine’s head of security; Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro; Madada herself; and seven others currently before the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The group faces charges of unlawful drilling, conspiracy to commit a felony, and related offenses. According to the prosecution, on February 12, 2025, the accused and others still at large allegedly held a meeting at NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule involving unauthorized military-style drills, movements, and formations, contrary to Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.
