The National Entrepreneur and Traders Association (NETA–Uganda) has announced the award of 1,000 education bursaries, both full and partial, in a major initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged learners across the country.
NETA–Uganda, a national umbrella body that brings together traders, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople to promote responsible business practices, economic empowerment, and compliance with national policies and tax obligations, revealed that the bursaries span all levels of education. These include nursery, primary, secondary, vocational, and university institutions.
Speaking to the press, the NETA–Uganda National Chairman, Dr. Thadeus Musoke Nagenda, confirmed that the association is still receiving and processing additional beneficiaries. He announced that the official handover ceremony for the bursaries will take place on January 23, 2025, at Constitutional Square in Kampala.
“The bursary program is part of our commitment to giving back to society and ensuring that no child is denied education due to lack of school fees,” Dr. Nagenda said. “We are continuing to give out more bursaries, and the public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.”
According to Dr. Nagenda, the bursaries specifically target orphans, academically outstanding students, talented learners, and children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with various schools across the country to ensure transparency and effective distribution.
He further reassured parents and guardians that they should not be overly burdened by school fees concerns for the 2026 academic year, noting that NETA–Uganda has already made provisions through the bursary scheme. He urged beneficiaries and interested applicants to visit the association’s offices at Yiga Chambers, St. Matia Mulumba Road, Old Kampala, to secure and process their bursary documentation.
In addition, Dr. Nagenda revealed that NETA–Uganda is working closely with several strategic partners to strengthen the program and expand its impact. These include Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Trusted News Uganda (www.trustednewsug.com), the Presidential CEO Forum, the Ministry of Education and Sports, Centenary Bank, Metro FM 90.8, and KBS TV, among others.
The bursary initiative has been widely welcomed as a significant contribution toward improving access to education and empowering future generations, while reinforcing NETA–Uganda’s role in national development and social responsibility.
