After 15 years of struggle and determination, Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, widely known as "Big Sister," has been given the chance to represent the people of Mbale City as their Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Wanyoto, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer, finally achieved her long-sought victory, defeating the incumbent, Hon. Connie Nakayenze Galiwango, who had served for 15 years.
Wanyoto secured 26,698 votes equally, while Galiwango received 8,014 votes. In third place was Nakayenze Aisha of the National Unity Platform (NUP) with 5,639 votes, followed by Wasagali Sarah Kanaabi with 2,970 votes.The results also saw Kakai Harriet (FDC) with 2,089 votes, Halima Asina (Independent) with 414 votes, Robin Nadunga (Independent) with 269 votes, and Dps Namono Peace finishing last with 142 votes.
In the Northern Division, Hajji Nangoli Umar, an Independent candidate, won with 15,296 votes. Hudu Hussein of NRM came second with 7,616 votes, while Wanyoto Paul (Independent) secured 6,467 votes in third place. Ivan Masaba (NUP) garnered 4,346 votes, followed by Seth Wambede (FDC) with 2,362 votes. Other candidates included Garshom Sezomu (FDC) with 2,354 votes, Moses Ssebagabo (DP) with 91 votes, Musigire Isma (UPM) with 24 votes, and Mukone Moses with 24 votes.
In the Industrial City Division, Karim Masaba emerged victorious with 12,031 votes. He was followed by Wasukira Anthony, the tomato seller, with 7,230 votes, and Wambogo John Weseka (NRM) with 6,692 votes. Walimba Iddi Rashid (NUP) received 1,961 votes, Wokuri Margaret (FDC) got 888 votes, and Wandera Reagan (Independent) secured 514 votes. Other candidates included Saidi Bin Sharif (PFF) with 174 votes, Musoba Benard (DP) with 89 votes, and Mudeda James (Independent) with 47 votes.
