Opinion: Why Speaker Among & her Deputy Tayebwa deserve to be re-elected for Speakerships for the 12th Parliament


The 11th Ugandan Parliament has had some notable achievements. They've passed 132 bills, including the Uganda Human Organ Donation and Transplant Bill, the Competition Bill, and amendments to the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The parliament has also held over 350 plenary sittings and processed more than 400 committee reports.

Some other key achievements include:

Legislative Reforms:

Passed major reforms touching education, agriculture, infrastructure, labour, and tax policy.

Budget Approvals:

Approved four national budgets totaling Shs192 trillion.

Oversight: 

Conducted oversight visits and public hearings across all regions of Uganda.

Key Bills Passed:

Mining and Minerals Bill, Computer Misuse (Amendment) Bill, Kampala Capital City Authority (Amendment) Bill, Physical Planners Registration Bill and others

Representation:

Held a historic regional sitting in Gulu City, engaging directly with the community.

The parliament has also approved significant projects, such as the Kayunga–Galiraya Road Upgrade and others and a US$162 million loan to boost Makerere University's Technology and Innovation education.

Some committees stood out for their effective oversight, including the Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, Health Committee, and the House Committee on Trade.

During their term in office they toured the whole Country and meet with The people.

There is no misunderstanding or conflict in the two offices of the Speaker and deputy.
