Breaking: Judiciary Brings Justice Closer-Mbale Hosts Court of Appeal Criminal Session

MBALE – The Judiciary has officially opened a Court of Appeal criminal session at the Mbale High Court, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to decentralize high-level judicial services and improve access to justice in the Elgon sub-region.

The session was presided over by Lord Justice Abura Hellen, who led the opening ceremony. The session aims to handle a backlog of criminal appeals, allowing appellants in Eastern Uganda to have their cases heard without the logistical burden of traveling to Kampala .

The opening was witnessed by key local leadership, including

Mr. Bayole Stanley, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Mbale district and Mr. Wapuwa, Resident City Commissioner (RCC).

Speaking at the event, RDC Mr. Bayole Stanley expressed his gratitude to the central government and the Chief Justice for their commitment to the Elgon region. He highlighted that the court is now scheduled to sit twice a year in Mbale, a move he believes will drastically reduce the time and costs associated with seeking justice.

"I want to thank the government for ensuring the judiciary is well-facilitated. Having the Court of Appeal sit here twice a year march and September is a win for the people of Elgon," Mr. Bayole remarked.

The RDC further commended the judicial officers and civil servants involved in the session for their patriotism. He noted that their readiness to serve Ugandans in their home regions reflects a dedication to the national interest and the rule of law
