Journalist Arnold Mukose Abducted After A Talk Show At Peral FM - UJA Demands Immediate Release

The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has condemned the  abduction of journalist Mukose Arnold Anthony, calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

In a press statement, UJA said it had received credible information that Mukose, a journalist with DigiTalk Media, was taken by unidentified plain-clothed men shortly after appearing on a radio program at around 1pm on Sunday. The incident reportedly happened outside the main gate of Metro FM 90.8 along Martin Road in Old Kampala, Kampala Central.

Eyewitnesses say Mukose had just finished a talk show where he analyzed issues surrounding the recently quashed Computer Misuse Act. He was then allegedly forced into a grey Toyota Noah by the men, who quickly drove off to an unknown destination.

Kabuye Ronald, the UJA spokesperson strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an attack on press freedom, freedom of expression, and the safety of journalists.

“This unlawful abduction undermines the ability of journalists to carry out their professional duties without fear,” Kabuye said when contacted.

Kabuye further called on security agencies to urgently explain the circumstances surrounding Mukose’s disappearance. “Witnesses claimed that the individuals involved identified themselves as security officers, raising serious concerns about the nature of the operation.”

The media body urged authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure the protection of journalists across the country.

UJA also expressed solidarity with Mukose’s family, colleagues, and the wider media fraternity as efforts to establish his whereabouts continue.
