Mbale SS HM Buyela Rewards Top UACE Students With Shs1m Cash Prizes To Motivate Other Students

Moses Buyera, the headteacher of Mbale Secondary School, awarded four students who scored 20 points in the 2025 UACE results with Shs1 million each in recognition of their outstanding performance.

While addressing the media on Monday, March 23, 2026, after handing over the money, Buyera emphasized the importance of appreciating high-achieving learners.

He noted that such recognition motivates students to work harder and strive for academic excellence.

In addition to the cash reward, Buyera encouraged the top-performing students to return to the school as part of the teaching support staff.

He explained that their peers may better understand lessons when guided by fellow students who made it, which could improve overall academic performance.

Buyera also pointed out that although the amount may seem small, it can significantly support parents who may be struggling financially.

He added that the money could also help students meet some basic requirements as they prepare to join university.

The headteacher revealed that this initiative has been a long-standing promise. He stated that students who score only As at O-Level (S4) and those who achieve 20 points at A-Level (S6) will continue to be rewarded.

He further encouraged current students to remain focused and work hard so they too, can benefit from the incentive program.
