Mbale, Uganda – Fresh from his convincing re-election victory, Hon. Karim Masaba, the Member of Parliament for Mbale City’s Industrial City Division, has signaled he is ready to intellectually dominate his former rival, Anthony Wasukira, in an upcoming public engagement.
Masaba, who secured a second term by polling 12,031 votes (40.61%) against a crowded field of eight challengers in the January 2026 polls, has reportedly accepted an invitation for a high-profile debate or community forum where Wasukira — who finished a distant second with 7,230 votes (24.40%) — is also expected to appear.
Sources close to the MP say Masaba is eager to “take the young man back to school,” a phrase widely interpreted in local political circles as a bold promise to expose gaps in Wasukira’s grasp of policy issues, parliamentary procedures, and constituency development realities.
The two politicians have previously clashed on podiums during the heated campaign period, with viral videos of their exchanges drawing significant attention.
“Experience in the House matters. Vision without delivery is just talk,” a statement attributed to Masaba’s team read in part. “We welcome every opportunity to contrast records.”Wasukira, a youthful first-time contender who energized younger voters with promises of innovation, job creation, and fresh ideas, has built a reputation as an articulate speaker capable of holding his own in public forums.
His background as a local hustler who rose from the backstreets of Mbale earned him admiration even in defeat.
Political analysts in Mbale say the anticipated face-off could be a defining moment. While Masaba now returns to Parliament as Shadow Minister of Tourism and Wildlife with a strengthened mandate, Wasukira’s strong second-place showing has positioned him as a potential future challenger with growing youth support.
Residents of the Industrial Division are eagerly awaiting the event, which is expected to focus on key local issues including industrial growth, youth unemployment, infrastructure, and tourism potential in the region. As one voter put it: “Masaba has the experience, but Wasukira has the fire.
When they meet again, we shall see who schools who.”The exact date and venue for the public “lesson” are yet to be confirmed, but anticipation is already building across Mbale.
