The announcement was made on Thursday by Patrick James Mawululu, the PTA Chairperson of Mbale Secondary School, during the handover ceremony of the Shs497 million Danga James Mini-Multipurpose Hall constructed by Jopal Investments and Logistics Ltd.
Speaking to Bugisu Intellectual Media, Mawululu confirmed that construction works on the new classroom block will begin next month.
“As the school PTA and Board of Governors, we are planners of Mbale SS. We have noticed that the community continues to entrust the school with more A-Level students, and it is our duty to address that need by providing such facilities so that learners in the Elgon region can access better education,” Mawululu said.
The school headteacher, Moses Buyera, said the newly commissioned hall was named after the late Deputy Headteacher, Danga James, who recently passed away.
“I want to thank the contractor for the good work and for completing the project on time. The project speaks for itself,” Buyera said.
He added that the Mini-Multipurpose Hall will greatly improve the school’s infrastructure and create additional space for school activities.
“We have been using the library for some activities, but this new facility will help us save space and improve operations at the school,” he noted.
Zanubia Namutamba, the Vice Chairperson of the school’s Board of Governors, thanked the headteacher, contractors, and parents for supporting the project.
“I appreciate the parents for paying school fees on time because they are the key funders of this project. During our meeting with parents, we agreed to name the new building after Danga James. May his soul rest in peace,” Namutamba added.
