M7 Drops Ministers in 2026-2031 Cabinet Shake-Up.
Kampala – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has executed a major cabinet reshuffle, dropping several long-serving ministers as he prepares his government for the 2026–2031 term following the anticipated 2026 general elections.
Sources close to State House confirmed that the President has sidelined a number of high-profile ministers in what insiders describe as a move to inject fresh blood, reward loyalty, and address public criticism over performance and corruption allegations.
Among the notable casualties are ministers who have held their dockets for over two terms. Reliable sources indicate that some dropped ministers failed to meet the President’s performance benchmarks, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and works.
A senior NRM official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “Mzee has made it clear that this term will focus on wealth creation, parish development model implementation, and industrialization.
Those who were sleeping on the job or became too comfortable have been shown the door.”The reshuffle is expected to see the appointment of several youthful and technocratic figures, including some first-time MPs and professionals from the private sector and academia.
There are strong indications that key portfolios such as Finance, Energy, and Security will see new faces or significant redeployments.Political analysts say the move is strategic ahead of the 2026 polls. “By dropping underperformers now, Museveni is sending a strong message to both the party and the public that delivery matters,” said Dr. Asuman Bisiika, a political commentator.
Opposition figures have however dismissed the reshuffle as “musical chairs,” arguing that it does little to address systemic governance issues.“The real problem is not individual ministers but the system presided over by M7 for nearly 40 years,” said an FDC spokesperson.
President M7 has retained a core of trusted loyalists in strategic positions.
