"Enough is Enough”: MP Masaba Muhamood Accuses Foreigners of Colonising Constituents in NEMA Noise Row, Holds Massive Security meeting With Stakeholders

Nabumali, Uganda – Bungokho Central Member of Parliament Hon. Masaba Muhamood has issued a strong warning to white foreigners operating a retirement home in Nabumali Town Council, accusing them of interfering in local affairs and “colonising” his constituents.

The MP made the remarks while addressing a gathering at Nabumali Town Council offices, where he was the guest of honour. The meeting was attended by the District Police Commander (DPC), Regional Police Commander (RPC), LC3 chairpersons, councillors, GISOs, and other stakeholders.

Masaba demanded that the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) return all music systems confiscated from bars and malwa points in Nyondo Sub-county and Nabumali Town Council unconditionally. 

He argued that NEMA failed to adequately sensitise the community before carrying out the operation.He accused several area leaders of siding with the foreigners to terrorise local residents for personal gain. 

Those named include Nyondo GISO Nyondo, Mr. Lumonya Remmy, former councillor Shimali Peter, and Masika Jacob.It was alleged during the meeting that Shimali and Jacob received Shs100 million from the foreigners, which they pocketed under the pretext of registering an NGO to help the community.

The MP further claimed that the foreigners initially came to Uganda with plans to build an eye hospital, which later evolved into a general hospital and eventually a retirement home.

“We welcomed them into our community, but they are now becoming a problem,” Muhamood said. “How can they write to NEMA asking them to grab speakers from small bars, including malwa points?We shall not just look on as leaders.”

NEMA Mbale recently conducted operations in the area, impounding music systems over alleged noise pollution. Sources claim the foreigners influenced or engineered the exercise, a claim that sparked the MP’s strong reaction. However, NEMA officials have defended the operation as lawful and part of a nationwide campaign against noise pollution.The incident has triggered debate in the region about the relationship between local communities and foreign investors, especially those running retirement homes and other facilities.
