Preparations for the 2026 Imbalu circumcision season received a major boost on Monday after Bubulo West Member of Parliament, Hon. Matembu Chris Wataka, financed the renovation of the Wakooko and Gobero clan huts at Mutoto Cultural Grounds.
During an inspection tour of the venue ahead of the official Imbalu opening ceremony scheduled for August 1, Hon. Matembu found the two traditional huts in a deteriorating condition.
He immediately provided cash to facilitate their renovation, saying the structures should reflect the pride and heritage of the Bagisu people.
"Our culture is our identity. We cannot welcome visitors to Mutoto when some of our cultural structures are in such poor condition.
The renovation should begin immediately," Hon. Matembu said.
Clan elders and community members welcomed the support, describing it as a timely intervention that will help preserve the cultural heritage of the Bagisu.
They noted that the huts had remained neglected for years and expressed gratitude for the MP's commitment to restoring them.
The renovation is expected to be completed before the official launch of the Imbalu season, when thousands of cultural enthusiasts, tourists, and dignitaries are expected to gather at Mutoto Cultural Grounds to witness the beginning of the renowned Bagisu circumcision ceremonies.
