THE INTERIM PLAN FOR SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN GREATER KAMPALA METROPOLITAN AREA

A high-level meeting chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, on August 21, 2024, at the Office of the Prime Minister, has decided on an interim sold waste management plan for the greater Kampala Metropolitan area.  The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Local government, Rafael Magezi, minister for Kampala Hajjati Minsa Kabanda, General Katumba minister for works and Transport and the KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka Others who attended are the mayors of Greater  Kampala Metropolitan area, that is, the Lord Mayor Kampala City, the Mayor for  Entebbe, Kiira, Wakiso and Mukono, town clerks and other technocrats.  The meeting made the following decisions to address the garbage challenges arising from the collapse of the garbage piles in Kiteezi. Trouble: Kyambogo Versity Struggles to Pay Part-Time Lecturers

Kyambogo University is facing significant financial challenges, with the institution struggling to pay part-time lecturers who play a crucial role in its academic programs. The university’s vice chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, revealed that arrears owed to these lecturers have accumulated to Shs 5.6 billion, primarily due to low tuition fees that have remained unchanged since 2009. During a recent press briefing, Prof. Katunguka explained that the university’s financial strain is largely attributable to its heavy reliance on part-time staff to fill gaps in teaching positions. With only 404 full-time staff out of an approved 1,281 positions, Kyambogo has been forced to employ more than 500 part-time lecturers, whose salaries are drawn from the non-wage component of the university’s budget. SPORTS: Uganda names squad for 2024 World Athletics U20 Championship

  The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has announced a team for the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championship, set to take place in Lima, Peru, from August 27-31. Dominic Otuchet, President of the UAF, named 10 athletes who will represent the country at the Championship. “The coaches have assessed the athletes who have been training for some time and have come up with a strong team of 10. We would have liked to take more athletes, but we also have to consider our financial position,” Otuchet told Xinhua on Tuesday. The Championship will feature several Olympians who recently competed in the Paris 2024 Games. These include Bradley Nkoana and Bayanda Walaza, who helped South Africa to a silver medal in the men’s 4x100m relay, and Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew, who finished fifth in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase. Henry Katanga Was Shot in Head At Close Range – Pathologist

A pathologist from the Mulago City Mortuary, Dr. Richard Ambayo has told the High Court in Kampala that the late City businessman, Henry Katanga was fired at close range, likely with the weapon pointed directly against his head. Dr Ambayo who performed the post-mortem examination on Henry Katanga’s body was the seventh prosecution witness in the trial of Molly Katanga who is alleged to have murdered her husband Henry Katanga. Ambayo made the testimony before the Criminal Division Judge, Isaac Muwata where he revealed graphic details of the autopsy report saying that the bullet entry wound on the left temporal area of the scalp, measuring 1.5cm, with no blackening of the tissues, indicates a contact shot. He stated that he conducted the post-mortem examination on November 2nd, 2023, alongside Dr Male Mutumba after receiving a police form 48B and 48A, requesting a medical doctor to perform that duty. Student found dead after lodging in hotel with man who hired her to act as his Girlfriend

A Nigerian police command says it has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the demise of a 21-year-old student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Awesu Mojisola. In a statement released, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said on August 12, 2024, at about 7.30a report was made by a resident of the body of an unidentified female dumped in a refuse site. Ejire-Adeyemi stated that following this report, a team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the scene. She said upon arrival, the scene was carefully examined and photographed. During the initial investigation, the police spokesperson mentioned that traces of blood were found near the left ear of the deceased who was later identified as Miss Awesu Mojisola. According to the report, Miss Mojisola received a phone call on August 9 from one Miss Timileyin, who informed her about an event organized by students of Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin. Dr. Aminah Zawadde assumed the position of the Ps. Ministry of ICT and National Guidance on July 15th, 2021 replacing Hon. Vincent Waiswa Bagiire who had been the permanent secretary for the ministry since November 2016. Dr. Aminah Zawedde is among the seven (7) reappointed as permanent secretaries for their respective ministries by President Yoweri Museveni for another three years. The reappointment was confirmed by the Head of Public Service, Lucy Nakyobe, saying that the President indeed had renewed the contracts of the permanent secretaries, Dr. Aminah Zawedde inclusive. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was on Sunday August 18, 2024 the Chief Guest as the 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) games officially kicked off at Bukedea Comprehensive School in Bukedea District in Eastern Uganda. Bukedea Comprehensive School is owned by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among.  Other FEASSA games will be played at AMUS College School and Teso College. The games to be played by both boys and girls include; football, Swimming, Table Tennis, Soccer, Badminton, basketball, Handball, Netball, Rugby 15’s and Hockey.   President Yoweri  Kaguta Museveni Has  Fired The Education Ministry Permanent  Secretary, Ketty Lamaro, who Sources Say Is Minister/First Lady,  Janet Museven 's Blue Eyed Gal. According to sources, Ketty Lamaro who has been a permanent secretary at the ministry of Education for three years is now jobless. Lamaro joins the embattled/ Jailed  Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Geraldine Ssali,  who's contract was not renewed, and got a replacement immediately. Although it is allaged that Lamaro is first ladies blue-eyed lady, the president was not impressed with her performance at the ministry for the three years she was in-charge. Gen Muhoozi, who is President Yoweri Museveni’s first-born son and serves as the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the national army took to X to make the shocking allegation against Mr Odrek Rwabwogo.
