Speaker Among Rallies MPs To Go For Periodic Mental Health Screening & Check-Up


The speaker of parliament Anita Among has rallied Members of parliament to go for periodic mental health screening and check-ups.


This was in her opening remarks while officiating at the opening of the Mental Health Awareness Month organized by the Parliamentary Forum on Mental Health and other NGOs in the fight against Mental Health at parliament.




Among said stress, frustration, poverty and hatred are the main causes of mental disorder thus calling on Ugandans to embrace government programs towards eradicating poverty.



Dr. Kenneth Kilani a psychiatrist and senior medical officer at the ministry of health noted that there’s lack of awareness on the causes of mental health amongst different communities which has increased mental cases in the country which at times has led to loss of life’s like the recent gun killings by the security personnel’s.



Meanwhile the chairperson for the Parliamentary Forum on Mental Health Geoffrey Macho called for quarterly screenings of security officers and all people using guns.
