Northern Division emerged as the champions of the Eid Cup after a tense final match against Namanyonyi Sub-county, which ended goalless after 90 minutes. The game, held at Gangama Primary School, was ultimately decided by penalties, where Northern Division triumphed 3-1.
The tournament was organized by Team Hon. Paul Wanyoto Mugoya.
The final attracted thousands of enthusiastic spectators from all corners of Northern Division and Namanyonyi, who gathered to cheer on their teams and celebrate Eid Adhuha.
The winners walked away with UGX 1 million, a cow, and gold medals, all presented by the event’s main sponsor, Hon. Paul Wanyoto Mugoya.
The runners-up, Namanyonyi Sub-county, received UGX 1 million, silver medals, and a goat.
Before the awards ceremony, the Chairperson of College Cell extended her gratitude to Hon. Wanyoto for his unwavering support of youth activities, especially sports.
She encouraged the people of Mbale Northern City Division to support him politically, citing his commitment to youth empowerment, unity, and development.
Counsel Kidiyi, who accompanied Hon. Wanyoto, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Hon. Wanyoto is a leader without political or religious bias and would serve all people equally if elected.
Mr. Don Innocent Wanyama, CEO of Vision Group and a longtime friend of Hon. Wanyoto, urged the residents of Mbale Northern City Division to elect Hon. Wanyoto as their Member of Parliament in the 2026–2031 term.
He praised Wanyoto’s leadership, especially his performance as Chairperson of the Mbale City Land Board, where he led efforts to fight land grabbing over the past four years.
Mr. Wanyama also demonstrated his love for football by donating UGX 300,000 to each team and UGX 200,000 to the referees in appreciation of their officiating.
In his remarks, Hon. Paul Wanyoto Mugoya thanked both teams for an entertaining and competitive match and wished everyone a joyous Eid Adhuha.
He urged the youth to engage in productive activities such as sports, noting that many sportsmen and women in Uganda and globally are now achieving financial success through sports.
“I promise to continue supporting the youth through education, sports, and other development programs.
I’m also a youth, so I ask you to support me as your MP so that I can serve you diligently,” Hon. Wanyoto stated.
The captains of both teams expressed their gratitude to Hon. Wanyoto for the initiative that brought the youth together and for the generous prizes. They pledged their support for his parliamentary bid in the upcoming 2026 elections.
