Mob Lynching Horror at DTB Ntinda: Innocent Customer Brutally Killed as Police Deny Incident, Bank Confirms Attack

Kampala, Uganda – Chaos erupted at the Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) branch in Ntinda last week when an angry mob stormed the premises and killed a man in a brutal lynching, turning a routine banking day into a scene of horror.

Eyewitnesses described a frenzied crowd dragging the victim out of the bank before beating him to death with sticks, stones, and blunt objects in the parking area.

Shocking videos circulating on social media show the mob overwhelming security guards as bystanders screamed in terror.

The victim, whose identity is yet to be officially released, was reportedly accused by the crowd of involvement in a fraudulent transaction or theft inside the bank.

DTB Bank has confirmed the tragic incident in a brief statement issued late Sunday afternoon.

“We regret to confirm that an unfortunate security breach occurred at our Ntinda branch today, resulting in the loss of one life,” the bank said. “We are cooperating fully with relevant authorities and have strengthened security across all branches. The safety of our customers and staff remains our top priority.”However, police have issued a contradictory statement, downplaying or outright denying the lynching.

Uganda Police Force spokesperson Rusagara Kananura told journalists that “no death occurred inside or outside the DTB Ntinda premises,” describing reports as “exaggerated rumors aimed at causing public panic.” Officers at the scene were reportedly seen dispersing crowds and confiscating phones from those recording the incident.

The conflicting accounts have sparked outrage on social media, with many Ugandans accusing authorities of attempting to cover up rising incidents of mob justice fueled by public frustration over alleged bank fraud, poor security, and delayed justice.

Local residents say the attack stemmed from long-simmering tensions. “People are tired of being robbed through fake apps and inside banks,” one Ntinda trader who witnessed part of the chaos told reporters. “When they saw this man, they just exploded.”As of press time, no arrests have been publicly announced, and the victim’s body was reportedly taken to Mulago Hospital mortuary.

DTB has temporarily closed the Ntinda branch for security review.

This incident highlights growing concerns over vigilantism in Uganda, where citizens increasingly take the law into their own hands amid perceptions of ineffective policing and institutional failures.

More updates to follow as authorities clarify the contradiction between police denial and the bank’s confirmation.
