News Upgrades: Omagor Steps Down for MP Isiagi in Kachumbala Race as Museveni Meets NUP’s Florence Asio in Bukedea

David Omagor has officially stepped down from the Kachumbala County parliamentary race in favor of the incumbent MP Patrick Isiagi Opolot, consolidating support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Omagor’s withdrawal, was announced by Uganda’s Speaker Anita Among before President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Omagor’s decision effectively leaves NUP’s Charles Ongelech as the only remaining challenger to Isiagi, though reports suggest that Ongelech’s candidacy is in jeopardy following allegations of forged nomination signatures, which could disqualify him from the race.

During the same event, President Museveni met with Florence Asio, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for Bukedea.

Museveni, in his characteristic humor and candor, dismissed NUP as “shallow and bogus,” saying the party was disorganized and lacked a clear understanding of its own membership.

“You people of Bukedea, these NUP people are shallow and bogus. They do not even know who their members are. That lady Asio is a relative to Speaker Anita Among, and yet they thought they were going to run against her. That shows you how confused they are,” Museveni remarked, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The President congratulated Speaker Anita Among and other NRM members from Bukedea who were elected unopposed, saying it was a clear sign that the people of Bukedea had embraced the ruling party’s message of stability, peace, and development.

“I want to congratulate all our NRM members who went through unopposed. That is the maturity we want in politics,  people choosing the right leadership based on performance and unity,” Museveni said.

The President, who is on his final leg of the Teso Sub-region campaign trail, urged NRM leaders and supporters in Bukedea to extend their campaign efforts beyond their constituencies and mobilize voters for the party across the country.

“Now that you are strong here, don’t relax. Move to other areas and help your colleagues who still have tight races. We must ensure that NRM wins overwhelmingly at all levels, from LC1 to Parliament and the Presidency,” he directed.

Museveni emphasized that NRM’s continued stay in power was not just a political goal but a safeguard for Uganda’s stability and economic transformation.

“We have built this country from scratch. The roads, the schools, the electricity, all these things you see are results of our long-term vision. We cannot allow opportunists who have no plan for Uganda to destroy that progress,” he said.
