NAMISINDWA DISTRICT – Residents and leaders are reeling in disbelief after it emerged that 30 million shillings was budgeted and spent on purchasing just eight ordinary electrical power sockets in Tsekululu Sub-county.
The shocking revelation came to light when Namisindwa District LC5 Chairperson Emma Bwayo stumbled upon questionable expenditure documents, prompting him to immediately initiate investigations.
According to the documents, 30 million shillings was allocated for the eight sockets in Tsekululu Sub-county, while another 25 million shillings was spent in Bukokho Sub-county on just two doors plus 5 million shillings for labour.
Speaking out in astonishment, Bwayo said: “Somebody went and bought 8 electrical sockets to connect power in the house at 30 million. How much does one socket cost? Not even with power but sockets. Me, I used 1.5 million to connect power in the whole of my house.”
He further questioned the Bukokho expenditure: “25 million shillings were spent on buying two doors and 5 million for labour… something still questionable on how such amount of money was used on buying two doors.”
Bwayo expressed determination to tackle the rot head-on. “I will not reduce on the speed of fighting corruption in Namisindwa,” he declared. The LC5 Chairperson’s swift action has sparked hope among residents that those responsible for the apparent misuse of public funds will be held accountable.
As investigations commence, questions are mounting over how such inflated expenditures were approved and executed in the district.
This latest scandal adds to growing concerns about financial accountability in local government projects across the region.
