Thousands of residents today thronged Aloet Ward in Soroti City East to witness the manifesto launch of Rodney Mukula Akongel, an independent parliamentary aspirant whose campaign message of unity and economic transformation has been steadily gaining ground across the division.
Running under the slogan “All for One, One for All,” Akongel’s manifesto is built on three major pillars — economic empowerment, inclusive leadership, and community-driven development. He pledged to focus on tackling unemployment, supporting small-scale enterprises, and improving household incomes through practical, people-centered interventions.
> “This campaign is not about me; it’s about us — the people of Soroti who deserve better,” Akongel told an enthusiastic crowd. “We are building a city where every young person can dream again, every mother can earn, and every family can live with dignity.”
The event, which drew supporters from all ten wards of the division, was marked by chants of “Rodney oyee!” and “The People’s Choice!” as residents waved placards bearing his campaign colors and slogan.
Local leaders present praised Akongel’s message of unity and development. Valentine Goma, the female councilor for Aloet Ward, appealed to voters to rally behind him, describing him as a bridge-builder.
> “Rodney represents the future — a leader who listens, includes, and acts,” Goma said.
Isaac Elakuna, the former Speaker of Soroti City Council, cited Akongel’s strong mobilization skills and national networks as key strengths that could help Soroti City lobby for more resources.
> “He has the capacity to connect Soroti to opportunity,” Elakuna observed.
In a rare show of political goodwill, John Junior Ekutelek, who contested in the NRM primaries for the same seat, publicly endorsed Akongel’s bid.
> “Politics should unite us behind those with vision,” he said. “Rodney has that vision — and we must support it.”
The atmosphere at Aloet was both political and festive, with performances from top entertainers including Rodgavana and General Fireman, whose music kept the crowd energized throughout the afternoon.
Observers noted that Akongel’s campaign is increasingly appealing to youth and women’s groups, positioning him as one of the frontrunners in the Soroti City East race ahead of the January 15, 2025 parliamentary elections.
As the sun set over Aloet Ward, one phrase echoed across the field — “All for One, One for All.” It was more than a slogan; it was a pledge that resonated deeply with the people who had come to listen.
