YesterdayWhile introducing Members of Parliament from the Bugisu Subregion who attended the get-together dinner at his Munyonyo residence last, Hon. Eng. Julius Nakiyi, MP Elect for Budadiri East, publicly expressed his support for Hon. Lydia Wanyoto as Bugisu’s potential candidate for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament in 2031.
The Members of the Bugisu Parliamentary Caucus present also welcomed the proposal, emphasizing the importance of early strategic positioning & unity among leaders from the subregion.
In her remarks, Hon. Lydia Wanyoto thanked colleagues for the confidence expressed in her and stated that she would fully abide by the collective decision of the Caucus.
Members agreed that it would be in the best interest of the subregion to strategically defer the candidature to 2031, noting that the Deputy Speaker position is likely to become vacant around that time in line with the NRM’s tradition where the Deputy Speaker and the Speaker typically serve about ten years each.
