Uganda – Bungokho Central Member of Parliament Masaba Muhamood has issued a stern warning to white foreigners operating a retirement home in Nabumali Town Council, accusing them of interfering in local affairs and "colonising" his constituents.
Muhamood made the remarks over the weekend while addressing mourners at the burial ceremony of the late Damascus Musamali in Nyondo Sub-county.
In a strongly worded message, the MP condemned what he described as disrespectful treatment of community members by the foreigners.
“We welcomed them into our community, but they are now becoming a problem. How can they write to NEMA asking them to grab speakers from small bars, including malwa points? We shall not just look on as leaders,” Muhamood said
.It is worth noting that NEMA Mbale recently carried out operations in Nyondo and Nabumali Town Council, impounding music systems from various establishments over alleged noise pollution.
Sources claim the foreigners appeared to engineered or influenced the exercise, prompting the MP’s outburst. However, officials at NEMA Mbale have defended the operation as lawful and part of a countrywide campaign against noise pollution.
The incident has sparked debate in the area, with questions emerging about the relationship between local communities and foreign investors, particularly those running small businesses and similar facilities in the region.
