NEWS:Former Makerere Lecturer Kicked Into Prison Over Son's Murder

The Police has ended a two-day manhunt for Emmanuel Sabiiti, the prime suspect in a double murder that occurred at his home over the weekend.

Sabiiti, a former languages lecturer at Makerere University, was picked from Buhweju district.

According to a Police source privy to the arrest that preferred anonymity, Sabiiti was found “seated under a tree”.

Before going on the run, Sabiiti, a resident of Kabutsye in Kigarama, Sheema district, at about 4:00 am on Sunday morning, allegedly attacked and killed his son Kendo, 8, a maid only identified as Lillian, 16, with a machete.

His daughter Clara, 10, was also hospitalised at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

By press time on Tuesday afternoon, he was being transported to Buhweju Central Police Station.

Marital trouble

Yusuf Kagwisagye, the area Local Council chairman, told New Vision via telephone on Sunday that Sabiiti had been at loggerheads with his wife who he suspected of infidelity, questioning the legitimacy of their five-month-old baby. The couple had been living apart by the time the deadly incident happened.

“There have been accusations and counter-accusations over who is the father of the baby among them,” Kagwisagye revealed, noting that he previously referred the estranged couple to the Police.

He added that Sabiiti retired four years, and has been running a bar called Zanzibar.
