NRM Sweeps By-Elections in Bukimbiri and Gogonyo Constituencies

 


The NRM flag bearer Eddie Kwizera Wa gahungu was declared the winner of the Bukimbiri Constituency by-election in Kisoro district yesterday August 11th, 2022.

According to the Electoral Commission Returning Officer for Kisoro district Mr. Nayebare Daniel, Kwizera garnered 12214 votes in the whole Constituency.

“Accordingly, as Returning officer for Kisoro Electoral district and in accordance with Section 58(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, 2006 (as amended), I declare Kwizera Eddie Wa-gahungu who has obtained the largest number of votes to be the elected candidate for Bukimbiri County Constituency, Kisoro Electoral district,” Mr. Nayebare stated.

Hon. Kwizera was followed by Turyagyenda Asgario (Independent) who got 10105 votes of the total votes cast. Mr. Mutabazi Edward (Independent) also got 308 votes whereas Mr. Owebeyi James (FDC) came in last with 280 votes.

Earlier in the day, ruling NRM party candidate Hon. Orone Derrick was also declared winner of the Gogonyo County by-election in Pallisa district.

 


According to the Electoral Commission Returning officer for Pallisa district Mr. Othieno Daniel, Hon. Orone got 19,199 votes while Mr. Okoboi Joseph Opolot (NUP) who withdrew his candidature days before the voting day got 519 votes.

“Accordingly, as Returning officer for Kisoro Electoral district and in accordance with Section 58(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, 2006 (as amended), I declare Orone Derrick who has obtained the largest number of votes to be the elected candidate for Gogonyo County Constituency, Pallisa district,” Mr. Othieno stated.

NRM has so far won five by-elections in Kayunga, Omoro,Soroti East, Gogonyo County and Bukimbiri County respectively.
