MINISTER AMONGI DEFENDS UGANDAN POSITION ON HOMOSEXUALITY AT THE UN MEETING IN NEW YORK.


Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development Hon. BETTY AMONGI AKENA  has reiterated Ugandan position on Homosexuality.

Yesterday evening, at the UN Headquarters, the lobbyist group for LGBTQ met the Hon. Minister to lobby her, to soften the stand of Uganda, and the position of G77+China and NAM member states on homosexuality.


The Hon. Minister notified the delegation that Ugandan cultural and conservation context, just as many other countries in NAM and G77+ China because of the strong belief on the importance of family within the context of religious beliefs and culture.


 The Minister further opined that national identity and the principle of democracy demands that each country must subject such ideological debate to it's people, in which case, majority of the population in countries she is representing in the meeting has national legal regimes outlawing same sex marriage 

She stated that the movement of LGBTQ is spreading their case through indoctrination and recruitment of young boys and girls who are poor,  enticing them with money and promises of resettlement abroad, which is undermining the principle of mutual respect.


The Minister told the delegation that the ideology of homosexuality is even more contentious in the USA than the countries she is representing at the meeting, stating that over 200 (two hundred) anti LGBTQ laws have been proposed in over 20 States in the USA. She further notified the team that the issue still presents a polarised debate globally and requested them to focus on issues that unite all the countries of the UNITED NATIONS.

The meeting ended amicably.


This morning (USA TIME), the Hon. MINISTER is due to address delegates on Implementation of SDGs and AGENDA 2030 of the UNITED NATIONS.
