President Museveni Pledges UGX 200M for Lwengo Muslim District Head Quarters


President Museveni presided over a fundraising drive for the construction of the Lwengo Muslim District Headquarters and Health Centre. The event, held on Thursday, March 21st, 2024, at Mbiriizi Muslim Seed Secondary School in Mbiriizi Town Council along the Masaka-Mbarara Highway, was attended by high-profile personalities from both government and the Muslim community.

Among those in attendance were Defense Minister Hon. Vincent Bamulazeki Ssempija, State Minister in charge of Micro Finance Hon. Haroon Kasolo, legislators including Ms. Namujju Cissy, Lwengo District Woman Member of Parliament and chairperson of the organizing committee, as well as local government leaders led by LC 5 Haj.Ibrahim Kitatta and Resident District Commissioners (RDCs). From the Muslim community, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, led prominent leaders such as Prof Dr. Muhammadi Lubega Kisambira, the UMSC National Chairperson, and Haj Abdu Kiyimba, former executive committee member while Christian Religious leaders were led by Bishop Serversus Jjumba the Catholic Bishop of Masaka- Diocese. President Museveni, accompanied by Mufti Mubaje, laid the foundation stone of the proposed headquarters and health center, valued at Ugandan shillings 1.6 billion. In his address, President Museveni expressed gratitude to the Muslim leadership for the project and pledged a personal donation of Ugandan shillings 200 million. He also agreed to the request for construction to be carried out by the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Construction Unit, promising additional support as construction progresses. Reflecting on his government's achievements, he emphasized the importance of poverty alleviation programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and called on local government leaders to promote such initiatives to utilize land for production and combat poverty. Additionally, he addressed concerns about tuition fees in public schools, committing to ensuring free education for Ugandan learners. 

Mufti Mubaje commended President Museveni for development efforts and highlighted the stability of the UMSC, including its ten-year Strategic Developmental Plan. He pledged Ugandan shillings 10 million on behalf of the UMSC headquarters towards the project. 

Other speeches were delivered by government ministers, Hon. Namujju Cissy, and Sheikh Kibuule, the host Kadhi.
