It is both disappointing and disingenuous for Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga to publicly castigate Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Among over matters she (Kadaga) neither participated in nor opposed at the time.
The truth is clear: Speaker Among was targeted by the U.S. and U.K. governments not because of corruption—as no court or government institution, local or international, has found her culpable—but rather because of her principled stand in presiding over the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, a law that was overwhelmingly supported by the Ugandan Parliament and citizens.
What Kadaga conveniently forgets is that she herself was not present during the session when this critical bill was passed.
Instead of showing solidarity with the institution of Parliament and the Speaker who bravely stood firm in defending our cultural and moral values, she has chosen to play petty politics—cheaply riding on Western narratives to seek personal validation.
That is both shameful and opportunistic. We must remind Rt. Hon. Kadaga that leadership is not about clout-chasing or self-preservation. It is about principle, consistency, and defending the sovereignty and decisions of Uganda’s institutions.
Her reckless utterances betray the very foundation of parliamentary integrity she once claimed to uphold.
Speaker Anita Among has continued to lead with courage, resilience, and patriotic devotion—standing firm even in the face of international blackmail.
She deserves our collective support, not public ridicule from those who once occupied her seat but now serve foreign applause at the expense of national dignity.
This populism must be exposed and condemned. Kadaga’s statements are not only divisive but also an insult to the memory and will of millions of Ugandans who supported the anti-homosexuality law.
Let her be reminded: Uganda is not ruled from Washington or London. Our values, our Parliament, and our laws belong to us.
We stand with Rt. Hon. Anita Among. Uganda stands tall. We shall not bow to foreign pressure nor tolerate internal sabotage.
