In a spirited bid to secure the NRM party flag in the forthcoming elections, Woman MP aspirants on Friday held campaigns across Bushiende Sub-county. The candidates traversed all seven parishes in an electrifying fashion, engaging voters and outlining their visions for the constituency.
The incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Mbale District, Hon. Miriam Mukhaye, received a warm and enthusiastic reception in every parish she visited. Addressing the residents, she expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust and support they have accorded her during her current term.
Hon. Miriam highlighted the many services she has lobbied for and personally supported in Bushiende and across the district—particularly in the health and education sectors, which she emphasized as her top priorities. She commended mothers for consistently utilizing antenatal services at health centers, a sign of increasing health awareness among the community.
Appealing for their continued support, Hon. Miriam requested the people of Bushiende to vote her as the NRM flag bearer. She reminded them that she previously won as an independent candidate and that being under the NRM umbrella this time would empower her to lobby more effectively from the "main source." She emphasized that this would lead to greater benefits for the entire district.
In a major announcement that sparked overwhelming excitement, Hon. Miriam revealed that she had secured an ambulance for Mbale District to ease emergency and health service delivery. The news was met with a thunderous ovation and chants of "Miriam – No Change!" and "Maayi yoo – Niye uweffe!" (meaning "That is our mother").
Other aspirants also had a chance to address the voters.
Susan Namaganda, one of the contenders with the better speech, appealed to residents for their votes, promising to serve with dedication and to ensure equitable service delivery. She pledged to follow up on government bursaries and to build on her previous work, such as lobbying for hospital beds at Busiu Health Centre IV during her youth leadership.
Residents loved Susan fir her speech which is service based.
Maayi Nadunga, a retired tutor, also aspiring Woman Member of parliament, took to the podium causing mummers among the residents wondering who she was.
She appealed to voters to entrust her because she is old enough to serve wholeheartedly. She promised to lobby for health services and improved inspection in schools.
In contrast, Aisha Lunyolo, an uncoordinated contender in the race, faced backlash after she attempted to downplay Hon. Miriam’s contributions—particularly mocking the distribution of delivery basins to new mothers. Her remarks angered the crowd, who questioned her credibility and vision, with murmurs spreading among voters who felt she offered no clear agenda for service.
She also had a team of hired goons who were transported to every rally trying to disorganize the audience.
Residents openly expressed their support for Hon. Miriam:
“Hon. Miriam is the best leader I’ve ever voted for,” said Juliet from Burukuru. “She has brought a health center near us where we access free services. She even paid our rent for a full year. No one compares to her.”
James from Bungwanyi added, “We now enjoy safe drinking water because she lobbied for a borehole. She also helped establish a health unit in Tubeyi. We are giving her our votes because she has always stood with us.”
With the strong backing of the people of Bushiende and a clear record of tangible impact, Hon. Miriam Mukhaye’s path to retaining the Woman MP seat seems firm—ushering in another term of service, progress, and transformation for Mbale District.
