NRM Faces Decline in Sironko, Says District Chairperson

Alhajji Sulaiman Lumolo Mafabi, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Sironko District, has voiced concerns about the party's dwindling support in the area.

Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Namagumba-Budadiri-Nalugungu Road at Budadiri Playground on Wednesday afternoon, Lumolo highlighted the party's ongoing struggles.

Lumolo informed Prime Minister Robinah Nabbajja that the NRM lost all its parliamentary and district LV seat to candidates from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and independents in recent elections. He did not specify the reasons behind this poor performance but expressed his concern.

Despite the setbacks, Lumolo praised the government for appointing Nambozo Florence as a minister, calling it a blessing for the people of Sironko.

Nambozo Florence, the Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament and State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, pointed out that the individual complaining about the NRM’s poor performance has been the party leader for 15 years. She suggested that the party's decline is due to its leadership being dominated by Lumolo's family and friends, which has led to internal resistance.

Prime Minister Nabbajja, however, expressed gratitude to the people of Sironko for their continued support of President Museveni in the last elections. She urged them to support him again, citing the fulfillment of his promise to tarmac the Nalugugu-Budadiri-Namagumba road.

The 39-kilometer road project has been awarded to Shandong Luqiao Group Co. Ltd. at a cost of 129 billion UGX, with a completion timeline of three months.
