Ms Anita Among to lead the Ugandan delegation attending the burial of His Holiness Pope Francis on Saturday
The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, is set to attend the burial of Pope Francis at the Vatican this Saturday, April 26, 2025.
According to Captain Mike Mukula, the Speaker has been a friend of the Pope and has received an invitation from the Vatican to attend the funeral Mass, which will be presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re.
Captain Mukula revealed that the President has directed Speaker Among to lead the Ugandan delegation attending the burial, a testament to the strong relationship between Uganda and the Vatican.
Speaker Among has previously met Pope Francis on several occasions, discussing global issues affecting the African continent, including youth empowerment and climate change. She described Pope Francis as "a devoted spiritual shepherd who left an indelible mark on the global Church".
The funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's Square, followed by the entombment in the Basilica of St. Mary Major.
Speaker Among's attendance underscores the significance of Uganda's relationship with the Vatican.
