As the country heads toward the 2026 general election, some politicians have devised strategies to convince their voters, including asking for forgiveness over shortcomings during the current term, while also seeking re-election.
This trend was evident on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, when Speaker Anita Among campaigned in the Busoga region for the position of second national vice chairperson (Female).
During the same event, MP for Bukooli County North, Stephen Baka Mugabi, publicly apologised to his constituents for the challenges and missteps experienced during his tenure.
Baka was first elected in the 9th Parliament but was widely criticised by the electorate for not delivering on his promises. As a result, he was voted out in the 10th Parliament.
He later made a comeback in the 11th Parliament, where he initially declared that he would not contest in the 12th Parliament and subsequently stayed away from his constituency.
However, in a surprising turn of events this year, Baka reappeared and admitted his past mistakes, asking for forgiveness from the people of Bukooli North.
He expressed a renewed commitment and desire to serve them better if given another chance in the upcoming elections.
