Bungokho South Joint Campaigns Suspended after an accident in Burukuru-NRM Boss Wambogo Comfirms

Mbale District NRM Chairperson, Moses Wambogo, has suspended joint campaigns in Bungokho South with immediate effect following a devastating accident that claimed two lives and left over 20 people seriously injured.

The decision was made after consulting with candidates, and Wambogo promised to announce the next course of action after meeting with them.

Details of the Accident

According to George William Wopuwa, the RDC Mbale District, the accident was fatal, with at least two confirmed deaths and numerous injuries. This incident echoes a similar tragedy that occurred recently in Mbale, where a speeding Fuso Truck rammed into Boda boda cyclists and pedestrians, killing four people, including Tayibu Bugolo, the Chairperson of Malaba Stage ¹.

Safety Concerns Amidst Campaigns

The halt in joint campaigns comes amidst growing concerns over safety and security during the NRM primaries. In other parts of the country, violent clashes have marred the electoral process, resulting in injuries and fatalities. For instance, in Mubende, a clash between supporters of rival NRM parliamentary candidates left one person shot and two cars set ablaze. Similarly, in Isingiro, two people were killed in violent NRM campaign clashes.

Next Steps

As the NRM primaries approach, scheduled for July 17, the party faces the challenge of ensuring a peaceful and transparent electoral process. Wambogo's decision to halt campaigns in Bungokho South underscores the need for caution and careful planning to prevent further incidents.
