In our bid to fight disinformation, we've gathered facts and the said story is a curious case of misinformation deliberately crafted to mislead, and tarnish the image of journalist Gabriel Buule.
Truths and wrongs:-
Gabriel is known for running successfull fundraisers and in this case he was asked to raise money for a distressed mother who was stuck in hospital. He raised shs 5.5 million which was directly paid to the hospital via mobile airtel pay with consent from Mr Gideon Kwikiriza and Maama D the victim.
He further contributed personal funds amounting to shs 200,000/ to transport the patient and babies to mulago.
He later fundraised more shs 1million and shs 40,000/ which was directly sent to the patient via mobile money. All these details where indicated in a thread on Gabriels X account.
Information The information carried in Explore Uganda website contains facts, events, and details that are untrue, exaggerated, and entirely made up.
Verdict.
Besides not seeking to get a comment from Gabriel or the people involved, the people who fabricated the story, went further to hire bots on X to sensationalise the matter with an aim to manipulation, provoke fear, anger, or outrage to encourage sharing without scrutiny with an headline meant to Clickbait.
